JIWON:
Dear Outsiders,

As I wrote in my previous mail on Mar 10, Dear Barenboim’s UN, EU, and First Lady of Israel (please see ABOVE, The-Art-of-Criticism, I created this place to save all kinds of big mouths of the Israeli Politicians, in case they win the next election to follow the footsteps of the present Government. Below is what’s been happening inside Barenboim’s Israel. And inside Palestine, too. What else Israeli Prime Minister could do in this situation? Even a different story is found inside the right-wing-religious groups, which are just hiding behind Mr. Bibi’s big mouth. And then, Israel used to be called a Banana-Republic. (Please see ABOVE.) If you want to criticize Barenboim’s Israel, please do so. However, please mention those Politician’s Exact Names instead of poor Prime Minister while insulting the Jewish Pigs, whose only concern has never been to take care of miserable life of the needy inside their Jewish State, but to topple the present government and win the next election. For them, a national election once a year has not been enough.

00. Yeshiva: In this Category, the readers will be surprised to know how many purest religious souls are found in Barenboim’s Israel. There are also up-to-date reports on the Jewish Pigs, though…
(MORE in Categories, “<-<-<-<-<-<-<-<-Jewish Big Mouths!” ^.*)
12. Social Democratic: Meretz, Labor (Meretz is more left~ BTW, Yossi Beilin is now out of Meretz.)
13. Centrist: Kadima (= Arik’s Likud + Simon Peres)
14. Nationalist: Likud (= Bibi’s Likud)

16. Migraine: National Union-National Religious Party (Zionist), Shas (Orthodox- Sephardi), United Torah Judaism (Orthodox-Ashkenazi)

What means Israeli LEFT or RIGHT or MIGRAINE? There has been NO difference whenever it comes to the Peace Negotiation between Israel & Palestine. Please see ABOVE, Dear-Arab-Readers.
Difficult, hard, but fun~~ Anyway, I feel no need to keep this work once I receive my money from Daniel Barenboim! (Please see My Requests to Barenboim) Dear Watchdog! :-) Marwan Barghouti to ‘Peace Now’: Palestinians ready for peace Last updated on April 9, 2008

Al-Qaida No. 2: We’ll target world Jews (Apr 3, 2008). (Jerusalem Post) vs. Al Qaeda No. 2: We don’t kill innocents (CNN)

PLO & Hamas: We’ll drive Israel out of Palestine (Apr 14, 2008).: “The PLO is the sole legitimate representative [of the Palestinian people]. (…) In light of the weakness of the Arab nation (…) when we take, at least, Jerusalem, the Israeli ideology will collapse in its entirety, and we will begin to progress with our own ideology, Allah willing, and drive them out of all of Palestine.PLO’s Abbas Zaki, told Lebanon’s NBN TV in an interview. The clip can be viewed at http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1738.htm. And Yunis al-Astal, a Hamas MP and cleric, told worshipers that Islam would soon conquer Rome (…) then will turn to the two Americas, and even Eastern Europe. (…) The clip can be viewed at http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1739.htm.

Arab Poll: Nasrallah, Assad and Ahmadinejad as the only leaders (Apr 17, 2008).: The poll found that a majority of Arabs see the three – Hizbullah-Nasrallah, Syria-Assad and Iran-Ahmadinejad – as the only leaders standing up against US influence in the Middle East. The poll was carried out by the University of Maryland and Zogby International, covered some 4,000 people in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates… that eight out of 10 Arabs have a negative view of the US and Arab governments backed by Washington… More than 80% of respondents identified the Arab-Israeli conflict as a key issue, but just over half – 55% – did not believe there would ever be a lasting peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians, despite US efforts to broker a deal by the end of this year. The poll showed that the number of Arabs who support Hamas is larger than those who back its rival Fatah faction. (…) Asked which world leader they disliked most, US President George W. Bush was at the top of the unpopularity poll with 63%, followed by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert with 39%… (JIWON: Poor Olmert… *.*)

Fatah veterans fear Barghouti’s ‘young guard’ coup (Apr 6, 2008).: The tensions reached their peak last month when Fatah leaders traded allegations over their involvement in financial scandals… embezzled millions of dollars. (…) Barghouti sent an angry letter to Abbas’s Fatah Central Committee, most of whom had been appointed by Yasser Arafat. (…) Barghouti’s camp includes many prominent Fatah figures such as Muhammad Dahlan, Jibril Rajoub, and Nasser al-Kidweh, a nephew of Yasser Arafat. (…) “If the current crisis continues, it will be a matter of time before Fatah collapses also in the West Bank,” he said. The power struggle is not only over jobs and money, but ideology as well. Many Fatah members, especially old guard Fatah representatives, are strongly opposed to introducing changes to the faction’s political program, which advocates an “armed struggle” against Israel.
(JIWON: BTW, I remember this name, Dahlan. He was the one who promised Bush Administration to work for the “peaceful solution” after receiving money. Then, he asked more money… how much was it? Am I wrong? Weird… Curiously, this name also appears in After Gaza Truce.)

Barghouti to ‘Peace Now’: Palestinians ready for peace (Apr 8, 2008).: Barghouti affirmed his support for a two-state solution. (…) He noted that he was among those jailed leaders along with those from Hamas and the Islamic Jihad who had forged the Prisoners’ Document, which supported negotiations with Israel toward a final-status agreement. (…) Tamir (Labor) said that when it was started, Peace Now was viewed as radical and extreme, particularly as it soon began to promote a two-state solution. But it has since moved to the center. (…) “There are some risks, but the alternative was a one-state solution, and that was more dangerous,” said Peace Now.

:-) Hamas, Fatah plan separate ceremonies on 60th anniversary of ‘nakba’ (Apr 13, 2008)
Analysis: Cairo concludes Fatah-Hamas chasm will not end anytime soon. (Palestinians have also come to accept the fact that they now have two mini-states.) (Nov 12, 2008): (…) Previous attempts by Arab countries to solve the Hamas-Fatah crisis also failed. (…) Tensions between Hamas and Fatah reached their peak this week as Palestinians marked the 4th anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s death. (…) Now that all efforts to solve the Hamas-Fatah strife have failed, the Palestinians’ eyes are set on January 9, 2009, when Abbas’s term expires.
(JIWON: So far, After Gaza Truce is the newest information and there is NO basic difference. In fact, things are getting worse.)

PALESTINE II

:-) From Economy in Palestine Last updated on Nov 6, 2008

5. World Bank: Palestinian economy could ‘incredibly’ flourish, like ‘a coiled spring water’ waiting to take off, if Israel eased restrictions (Nov 6, 2008): (…) World Bank officials and Palestinian economists, meanwhile, said there is growing concern that donor countries will fall short of pledges in coming months because of the global financial crisis. Palestinian Planning Minister Samir Abdullah said that even if donors were to scale back, there was still a cushion because they had pledged more than the $5.6 billion the Palestinians originally requested. So far in 2008, donor countries paid $1.6 billion of support the Palestinian budget, and $150 million for development projects, in line with Palestinian needs, he said.

4. PA receives $150 million from US (Oct 22, 2008): (…) The funds are the first installment of 555 million dollars pledged by Western countries at a donors’ conference in Paris late last year (…) American aid to the Palestinians in 2008 now totals over $700 million and exceeds the amount the US pledged at a donors conference in December 2007. (From old article: Israel is due to receive $2.55 billion in military assistance (…) part of a 10-year deal over which the US will give Israel $30 billion in military funds.)

3. Top PA officials to Post: ‘PA on the brink of bankruptcy due to the failure of donor countries to fulfill their pledges’ (Jul 29, 2008): (…) PA had received only $900m. of the $7.7b. promised during the December 2007 Paris Donors’ Conference. The money was promised to the PA over a period of 3 years by nearly 90 countries and international organizations. According to PECDAR, the PA was supposed to receive up to $3b. of it during 2008. However, PA officials complained that that the donors had so far paid less than 35% of the promised sum. (…)

2. World Bank: Billions of dollars in aid fail to reach poor Palestinians (Apr 28, 2008): (…) largely because Israel hasn’t removed enough roadblocks, and that Palestinians may need even more aid in the future just to get by. The bleak prognosis will be discussed by key donors in London this week, but quick solutions are unlikely. (…) critics say the international community’s attempt to foster Palestinian economic development separately from progress in peace talks was misguided from the start.

1. PA hopes Bethlehem-Conference will attract huge investments from Hundreds of Palestinian, Arab & International Businessmen (May 21, 2008): (…) Palestinians are seeking backing for nearly $2 billion in development projects (…)

:-) UN: Roadblocks in W. Bank has increased by 61.4% since 2005 (May 1, 2008).: These numbers do not include checkpoints placed along the Green Line.

:-) Absentee Property Law: Settlers, IDF & State quietly expropriate land (West Bank settlement construction nearly doubled this year, From Aug, 1993 to Present) Last updated on Oct 18, 2008

6. B’Tselem: IDF, settlers quietly expropriate land (Sep 11, 2008): West Bank settlers, often with the cooperation of the army and the state, have effectively expropriated thousands of dunams of private Palestinian land in so-called security zones beyond the perimeter of settlements located east of the security barrier, B’Tselem-The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories charges in a 58-page report set for release on Thursday morning. The report, titled “Stolen Land,” deals with official “special security areas” around 12 settlements and many other self-declared security areas policed by the settlers themselves. (…) Settlers bitterly attacked the report. (…)

3. Peace Now report: 21 settlements annex land from nature reserves (Feb 26, 2007)
2. High Court: Security fence may be built on Palestinian farmland (Feb 22, 2007): Justices Dorit Beinisch, Eliezer Rivlin and Edmond Levi rejected a petition submitted two years ago by ten Palestinian residents of the West Bank opposing the construction of security fences surrounding adjacent settlement land.

1. Land lords: As a result of a secret Israeli government decision, thousands of Palestinians living in the West Bank who own land or homes in East Jerusalem lost all rights to their holdings. And there are already plans to build on the expropriated land (Jan 20, 2005): (…) The findings of the committee made Kollek more determined than ever not to invoke the law. A summary of a meeting he held with the prime minister, Yitzhak Rabin, in August 1993, stated: “The prime minister agreed that no use will be made of absenteeism to evacuate permanent tenants from the eastern city.” The state attorney at the time, Dorit Beinisch (now a Supreme Court justice), was supposed to draw up a document in this spirit; none was issued. There was even talk of amending the law so that residents of the territories would not be considered absentees in relation to East Jerusalem.

ISRAEL, BIBI, DIEHARD-DOVES & ROADMAP (Please see AVOBE, Dieharddoves-&-Settlement.)

Analysis: Labor and the disappearing Left (Nov 13, 2008): (…) Once PM Olmert (Kadima) admitted to Meretz MK Beilin during a farewell session that his political stances over the past 30 years had moved closer to Beilin’s, it became clear that the Left was in danger. But the process started earlier, when Kadima founder and former PM Sharon endorsed a path of separation from the Palestinians that would cost Israel “painful concessions.” It continued with Olmert’s declarations that Israel would have to “tear off pieces of homeland in Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and in Judea and Samaria” – words he restated earlier this week. And it culminated when current Kadima leader and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni failed to form a government with Shas because of her refusal to take Jerusalem off the negotiation table with the Palestinians. “The current Israeli Left is identified with the peace camp, but this camp has expanded and reached even Livni and Olmert, who sounds lately as if he invented the peace camp,” said Israel Prize winner Prof. Ze’ev Sternhell from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. “Historically ‘Left’ has a social connotation, while in Israel there is a distinction between social Left and political Left – a distinction that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world, and it means that the terminology is false. True Left is based on universal principles that recognize all people’s right to be equal and to have freedom, and peace is an essential part of it,” Prof. Sternhell added.

3. DM Barak (Labor) gives Netanyahu security briefing (Jul 24, 2008): (…) By law, only the prime minister is required to give a military update to the opposition. (…) Netanyahu will win the next election, and he has said publicly time and again that he will form a national unity government. It is likely that Barak would remain defense minister in such a government. Netanyahu also met XYZ. Both denied that there were any political reasons for meeting with Netanyahu.
2. DM Barak (Labor) okays new 20 West Bank homes, despite vow to freeze settlements (Jul 24, 2008)
1. When is DM Barak going to quit? (Mar 30, 2008): When the families asked Barak when he would keep his promise to quit Olmert’s government, he said “soon,” adding that the timing depended on the diplomatic process with the Palestinians…

Meretz to PM-to-be Livni: JM Friedmann must go or no deal (Sep 26, 2008): During their negotiations with Kadima, Meretz will also insist on the continuation of talks with Palestinians over a final settlement agreement, and stopping construction in the West Bank settlements.
Analysis: Labor and the disappearing Left (Nov 13, 2008): (…) Meretz chairman Haim Oron said. “We raise the social flag to the same height as we raise the political flag, and this is why I chose to be a member of the Finance Committee in the Knesset and not a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.”

Dying to Be Trendy (Mar 27, 2008): What is most surprising in the latest affair involving BIBI’s LONDON TRIP is that the people closest to Bibi are continuing to insist that everything was fine (…) and that if Bibi were to embark on a similar mission in similar circumstances today, he would reside at the same hotel, choose a wealthy benefactor to pay for him. (…) When Bibi’s people are asked whom they suspect of leaking the information (…) In any case it is clear that ever since several people left Netanyahu’s bureau in the wake of PUBLICATION OF THE FULL WINOGRAD REPORT at the end of January, the dam has burst and the stories are flowing. Rabbi Yoffie (Union for Reform Judaism): ‘Christians for Israel’ hurt country (Apr 4, 2008).: “If Yoffie wants America to pressure Israel to trade land for peace, than yes, he [differs] from us. He should phrase it as it is. We are not trying to block the peace process, it’s that he is seeking to impose the peace process,” said CUFI (=Hagee).

[Bibi+CUFI] vs. [Union for Reform Judaism] on JERUSALEM Issue (Apr 7, 2008).: “This is a friendship of the heart, a friendship of common roots, and a friendship of common civilization,” NETANYAHU told a conference of American Evangelicals in Jerusalem, (CUFI=Hagee) (…) Hagee announced donations of $6 million to a number of Israeli causes and declared that Israel must remain in control of all of Jerusalem. “Turning part or all of JERUSALEM over to the Palestinians would be tantamount to turning it over to the Taliban,” Hagee said. Netanyahu’s remarks come just days after US Rabbi Yoffie (Union for Judaism) said that Israel should not deal with Christian Zionists like Hagee, calling him an “extremist”… MK Benny Elon (NU-NRP), who has spearheaded Israel’s relations with the evangelical Christian world, called Yoffie’s politically based remarks “shameful,” and called Hagee a “visionary man of courage” and an “outstanding spiritual leader.” Efrat Chief Rabbi Shlomo Riskin called the burgeoning ties between Israel and the evangelical Christian world “one of the most important things,” after close to 2,000 years of enmity persecution and pogroms. He called the rapprochement between Christians and Jews “one of the miracles” of the 20th century.

Bibi: PM Netanyahu will resume West Bank Settlement Activity (Sep 29, 2008).
(JIWON: It was right after my report of Everyone is a target: Sternhell attack shows that far right may target anyone who holds different views (RED FLAG for the RIGHT), which was 4 days after Settler’s bombing the Jew and 2 days after Settlers’ another attack on Palestinian village. After this report, Mr. Netanyahu resumes his job. I feel that I am reading not the Jewish articles but a comic book. Still, a human life is not a toy-story for me. This is why I prefer targeted killing to suicide bombing. (Please read my life. Dear Palestinians, (Concerning Barenboim’s Divan-Project) (Sep 25 – Nov 17, 2008).) What if Jewish Diehard-Doves were really killed by Bibi’s Settlers? IS IT SETTLER’s FAULT? While those pure spirits consider IT as a punishment, (Holy site closed to ‘punish’ settlers,) Mr. Netanyahu seems to treat himself as another-Sharon, who was ‘quickly’ elected as 11th PM after the Second Intifada. Meridor ‘Working Very Hard’ to Create Golan Giveaway Coalition (Dec 19, 2008): Dan Meridor is “working very hard” and “making every effort” to convince Binyamin Netanyahu to “make history” by changing Israel’s posture towards Syria and the idea of ceding the Golan Heights in return for a peace treaty. (…) Moshe Teomim, strategic advisor, boasted that it was he, who sold Bibi on the idea of advocating an “economic peace” with the Palestinian Authority. “I gave [the idea] to him ten months ago,” Teomim said. He added that in retrospect, however, he thinks the idea was not a very good one. (…) Meridor said that he agreed with nearly everything that PM Olmert said. His only points of disagreement with Olmert were regarding the Second Lebanon War, which Meridor thinks Olmert bungled, and the “attack on the justice system” by Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann. Olmert’s speech was largely devoted to the prospects of peace with Syria. (…) Meridor is considered very close to Supreme Court President Justice Dorit Beinisch. This matter came under journalistic debate when Meridor’s name was floated as a possible Justice Minister in 2006. According to Attorney Yossi Dar, Meridor and Beinisch routinely go out with their families “to concerts, holiday trips etc.” Meridor’s name has also been mentioned as a possible Minister of Justice in Binyamin Netanyahu’s future government. Another candidate is Gideon Saar. Saar was an aide to both Beinisch and Arbel and is also considered very close to them.
(JIWON: Finally, Phoenix-Bibi, Knesset-Jokes and Banana-Republic merged into Welcome to Jerusalem in the name of LIKUD. HO! I can now understand the reason of Sa’ar-bill (Jun 19, 2008), which was mocked by the Nobel Prize laureate, in Talkbacks: Beinisch, Friedmann, Sex-Scandal, Corruption (Kangaroo Court from Sep 12, 2003). I can also understand HOW and WHY Dorit Beinisch supported Bibi’s election campaign all behind the scenes. What amazes me is that Dorit Beinisch and Phoenix-Bibi all walked along arm in arm while Bibi’s Jewish voters all identified Banana Republic Queen with Kadima’s Olmert and insulted them. What a country…)

Analysis: Aliya policy lacking imagination (Apr 6, 2008).: Of the 14,000 Israeli expats who returned in the past three years, 30 percent were academics, scientists, researchers, engineers or technicians, 40% had academic degrees and 54% were between the ages of 20 and 44. In short, returning expats tend to be skilled, educated and of working age. (…) perhaps it is time for the government to pause to consider the problem of aliya not from the institutional or financial perspective, but from the cultural one; in a flat world, connecting Jews in consistent, meaningful ways to Israel may be the next best thing to, and a powerful engine for, aliya.

Poverty: 1/4 of children, 1/2 of I-Arab, R-Immigrant Prostitutes, & Settlements (Jan 11, 2001): Poverty is growing at an alarming rate… Inequality between rich and poor is one of the highest in the world. Fully 20% of Israelis live in poverty and 25% of children live in a poor family. (…) Poverty affects three times as many Arab Israelis as Jews. (…) Another feature of Israeli society is the booming sex industry… showed that 70% of prostitutes were Russian immigrants. (…) Low wages and benefit payments have also fuelled the growth of the Israeli settlements. Successive governments have offered economic incentives to Israeli’s moving to the Occupied Territories, while simultaneously promising the Palestinians to hand back the West Bank and Gaza. A survey in May 1999 by the Peace Now movement found that 53 percent of West Bank settlers had moved to the Occupied Territories for “non-ideological” reasons, such as cheap housing and income tax rebates. Nearly 34 percent would be prepared to leave in return for reasonable compensation.

(…) Former Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Israel Meir Lau says cremation is diametrically opposed to Judaism… “This is not just another nation like all the others. This is a Jewish state. Hetzroni Zula: a refuge for street youth (Apr 12, 2008).: (…) they were mostly from secular homes… Then came the young Arabs… we encountered a new phenomenon: Young haredi boys, some of them sent by their parents from the USA or England to study here in yeshivot… They had no one and nowhere to go to – they couldn’t find their place in their communities. It became such a large-scale problem that we had to open a special program for them, using the language and the customs they were used to. And today, we have the newcomers: the youth from the religious Zionist community, some of them from the settlements, those we had never seen here until recently,” he adds. (…) THE NUMBERS are astonishing. By the end of 2007, there were 7,884 street youth aged 14-26, known and registered in various ways with the Youth Advancement Division. As for the “newcomers,” the numbers are even more dramatic. (…) “the girls are in much more serious trouble, due mostly to their naivete and their education from home. Thus they get into trouble more easily, and their problems are very serious.” (…) one of the difficulties in dealing with the street kids’ problems is the lack of support from the religious Zionist community, particularly from its leaders. “In the budget that Shas recently received from the government, NIS 100 million was allotted for dealing with this kind of problems among haredi youth. Alas, this is not happening in the National Religious Party, apart from one or two MKs. There is still not enough awareness among our leaders,” he adds. (…) “There is still some kind of denial, especially from the most prestigious institutions, but the families are not trying anymore to ignore the facts, and they cooperate and help the best they can; they all understand it is crucial for rescue from the streets,” she added.

Jewish Funders Network: Donor wants more aid to Jewish causes (Apr 21, 2008).: “…major Jewish donors in the United States give maybe $10-12 billion each year. Only about 6 percent of that goes to with Jewish activities or Israel…” (…) Recanati joined the JFN in part because “I want to encourage those Jews, mainly in the United States, to contribute to the Jewish people.” But first, he wants Israelis to contribute more. “There’s a change in the Israeli mentality… Israelis aren’t suffering so much anymore. There’s a small layer in society that can contribute greatly.” Now, he believes, Israeli philanthropists should take the lead in Jewish philanthropy in order to inspire overseas Jews to do the same.

Poverty: Ethnic, HolocaustSurvivors, Haredim, and Netanyahu (Vol.5, 2007): (…) The fiscal politics of liberalization and privatization of the market as well as the far reaching budget cuts in the field of social welfare benefits were implemented by BENJAMIN NETANYAHU, the Israeli Minister of Finance at that time. Just one day before the Israeli poverty report (NII) was made public – the 7th of August 2005 – NETANYAHU resigned as Minister of Finance because of ‘political disagreements’ with SHARON with respect to the disengagement plan, the withdraw of settlements from the Gaza strip. (…) the biggest challenge for the Israeli government is to overcome the rapidly growing gap between the rich and the poor.

Bibi’s London Trip: Bibi Sues Channel 10 For Libel (TWO-Million-Shekel!): As for Barak – after decades of service as an army officer with a salary that did not reach the sky and some years as a cabinet minister with a similar income, he disappeared from public view for a short while and reappeared as a rich man. He bought a luxury apartment in one of the most expensive buildings in Tel Aviv, a structure that is a byword for ostentatious wealth. How does one get so rich in such a short time? Could it be by using connections acquired in the service of the state?

Diaspora Jewish Millionaires/Billionaires Love Bibi: The most prominent example today is casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, America’s richest Jew and overall third-richest individual, and in recent years the most generous philanthropic donor to Israel. (…) Adelson’s efforts to influence Israeli politics, primarily through his investment in the give-away newspaper Yisrael Hayom. Bruck dutifully notes how the paper has become known as the “Bibi-ton,” due to its clear slant in favor of Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu; recounts Adelson’s attempts to influence Shas and former coalition member Israel Beiteinu to quit the Olmert government. (…) The article explores Adelson’s rise, the riches he has garnered from his casinos in Las Vegas and Macao, his switch from Democrat to Republican, and his efforts to halt the Middle East peace process, ostensibly by ousting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Adelson is “fiercely opposed to the two-state solution,” the article says, going on to claim that he and former ally Olmert fell out over the latter’s decision to move ahead with peace talks with the Palestinians. According to the New Yorker, for Adelson this was “a betrayal of principle.” (…)
(The global losses notwithstanding, Adelson’s newspaper in Israel, Yisrael Hayom, appears not in danger (Nov 9, 2008) is the latest news. MORE will appear in 4. ISRAEL & AMERICAN JEWS in Kippah-I. Please see ABOVE.)

Editor’s Notes: The ‘P’ word (Jul 3, 2008).: Each day, thousands upon thousands of Israelis stream into the charitable institution whose workload is growing worryingly fast. (…) Yisrael stresses that the popular perception of poverty in Israel is skewed. A large proportion of those who are living in poverty are working. They just don’t earn enough to feed their families properly. Yisrael despairs at government indifference to the problem. He despairs at a failing education system (…) that the overwhelming majority of North American Jewish federations will not provide Yeshaya with donations. (…) Merrill Lynch reported only last week that Israel is home this year to 1,000 more millionaires than last year, and 10 more with assets in excess of $30 million. And Hazon Yeshaya is far from being the only charitable institution distributing food, battling Israel’s increasingly acute poverty crisis, and doing so with inadequate resources. (…)

ISRAEL, BIBI, ISRAELI-RUSSIAN & ROADMAP

Elections? What elections? (Oct 26, 2008): (…) Israeli politics has been canceled for lack of interest. Now it is being used by the campaign alone, but since most of the Russians are in any case Likudniks, this is not really a contradiction. (…) “Bibi’s economic policy ruined quite a lot for us. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. We explain to people that without Bibi’s economic policy, the country’s economic situation would be a lot worse today,” he says defensively. (…) However, the Likud has not lost all hope. Netanyahu, the opposition leader, more than once visited the Likud branch in the Hatikva neighborhood when it served as an immigrants’ club, and was greeted with great love. The immigrants here are mostly women who come for activities, and Bibi is still king here. (…) Politically, the Likud benefits here from the absence of alternatives. (…) Everything is personal. Without an ideology and without leaders, people follow the intermediary. The “fieldworker” becomes the most important person in the system. If people don’t go out to vote thanks to the “big guns,” they will perhaps go out and vote due to a personal interest or as a favor to a friend.

Bibi’s SILENCE to Obama (American P. Candidate) on Iran, Syria, J’lem and settlements (Jul 25, 2008): Obama was clearly conveying a carefully formulated message – and it was striking in several areas. (…) Speaking to the Post six months and a political lifetime ago in January, PM Olmert declared that the unique advantage of trying to reach an accord with the Palestinians during the Bush administration stemmed from the fact that while even Israel’s best friends, when they envision the permanent dimensions of our country, think of Israel “in terms of the ’67 borders,” Bush “has already said ’67-plus.’ He’s the only president who has ever said that… And that’s an amazing achievement for Israel.” In the Knesset on Monday, British PM Brown, a self-declared lifelong friend of Israel, underlined the point by setting out the “fundamentals” of a final-status accord involving “a two-state solution based on 1967 borders.” (…)

JIWON: Then, what about the way Israeli First Lady was treated? Please read the Talkbacks. This is Israel I know:
Israeli government criticized for deporting Darfur refugees (Jul 31, 2007): Aliza Olmert, the wife of the Israeli prime minister, has also expressed sympathy for the refugees and became active on their behalf. She intervened in one case in which a small girl was left in Egypt after her parents dashed across the border into Israel. Mrs. Olmert appealed to President Mubarak’s wife for help, and the girl was reunited with her parents in Israel. In an article in the newspaper Yediot Aharonot this month, Mrs. Olmert wrote, “The mercy we can give these broken people is to quickly identify those who are eligible for refugee status and speed along their absorption in Israel.” She added, “As for the wave of economic migrants, we cannot handle it. We must be compassionate, but also firm. What we must not do is send them packing back to Egypt without receiving assurances that they will be treated fairly.” Also on Sunday, PM Olmert agreed to pay needy Holocaust survivors… (JIWON: I prefer the IHT’s title and the NYT’s content.)

JIWON: This is Israel I know. God Bless Israel…:
Sarkozy presses Israel for settlement freeze (Jun 24, 2008): (…) Sarkozy has said Israeli-Palestinian peace is immediately attainable. (…) But nobody has seemed to notice. Instead, most of Israel’s attention has been showered on Sarkozy’s glamorous wife. (…) “Queen Carla,” said Yediot Ahronot, Israel’s largest daily. Inside was a two-page spread with a collage of her photos and a breakdown of her wardrobe – including the $2,500 Prada dress she wore upon arrival, a $1,200 hand purse and a $650 pair of sandals. The tabloid “Israel Hayom” crowned her the most beautiful first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy… Israeli TV commentator said the obsession was a typical case of Israeli escapism.

ISRAEL & POVERTY

Poverty: Ethnic, HolocaustSurvivors, Haredim, and Netanyahu (Vol.5, 2007): (…) Thus the ‘socialist’-Zionist project, ethnic exclusion, religious and intra-Jewish ethnic lines of conflict as well as the ‘specific’ Israeli citizen are discussed… 80% of Israelis regard themselves as poor… Nearly 1/3 of the Holocaust survivors are living in poverty… Israeli Arabs are not serving in the Israeli army. They ‘comprise some 20% of the population but account for half of those below the poverty line… Starting in the 1980s there is a growing concern with the Jewish ultra-Orthodox with regard to public life… according to their interpretation of Jewish faith… Because of high male unemployment the Haredim (ultra-Orthodox Jews) are mainly counted to the lower social class… ‘The percentage of children from the ultra-Orthodox milieu that are defined in the statistics as poor increased from 14 percent in 1981 to 56% in 1995′. These families depend on state funds. (…) A great number of children from ultra-Orthodox families have to take the help offered by the soup kitchens. ‘The most conspicuously absent element of a new soup kitchen for children in an ultra-orthodox neighbourhood of Jerusalem is the parents. The parents don’t want to be exposed to this embarrassment’.

IPO’s Zubin Mehta to Haaretz: I have a list of people who can pay for ‘Renovation.’ (Oct 21, 2008): “It’s hard to believe how much money there is in this country. It’s endless. I would have no problem getting $150 million to build the new auditorium, I have a list of people who can pay for it. I could similarly find a donor to pay $80 million to have the auditorium named after him; there are quite a number of people for whom that sum is negligible.”
(JIWON: Therefore, I decided NOT to worry about the NEEDY in Israel. It will be a real fun to instigate ALL the Extremists to fight and fight for their whatsoever-ideology. Who will give up first? Israeli side or Palestinian side? It will be rather a shortcut toward ONE Palestinian State. Toward ONE Jewish State, as well.

Beilin: America wants 2nd ME summit (Apr 9, 2008).: Beilin told The Jerusalem Post that the move would be a mistake unless it were known in advance that an agreement could be reached on core issues such as borders… adding that meetings without conclusions only supported those who doubted the ability of the sides to achieve peace… “You do not negotiate over lunch every two weeks,” said Beilin, who has been involved in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations for two decades, including the failed Camp David talks in 2000… He criticized the US for failing to appoint a special envoy to oversee the peace process. Beilin also called on Israel to negotiate with Hamas. “You can not come to an agreement without Hamas. Now is the time to come to an agreement, because it would garner majority support within the Knesset,” he said.

(May 14, 2008): US President Bush, who came into the Oval Office highly critical of his predecessor’s super-involvement in the Arab-Israeli conflict, is on his way out of office up to his eyeballs in the details of that same conflict. (…) Bush is well aware of the instinct of new presidents… Bush himself was accused in his early years in office of adopting what one NYT writer pithily termed an “ABC policy” – Anything But Clinton…

Obama names Clinton Sec. of State, James Jones national security advisor: (…) Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, asked about Hilary Clinton, said: “I think that she will bring enormous energy and intellect and skill to the position. JIWON: While reading Israeli 12th PM Olmert’s ‘comical(?)’ interviews about his life and his real(?) opinion, I had to think, think, and think about the Israeli politicians, whose left-wing opinions have been shattered by former Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert and his extreme-right-wing politics. JIWON: This is part of my previous mail to ISRAEL/PALESTINE & UN/EU, Dear Barenboim’s UN, EU, and First Lady of Israel (Mar 10, 2008).:
Dear Sirs,
It’s been years. How many articles do you think I have read and now remember? I’ve already told you that in those days I didn’t skip a day until I read a book, “Intifada Generation.” Among them, I only remember two. (I really regret not to save those. I hope someone to find what I remember, since both articles were in the Jerusalem Post.)
1. Some naïve volunteers in Palestinian area are contributing anything but practical peace process between I & P. Rather, they are spoiling P. public mind. There should be a clear vision of how to perform their humanitarian ideas, or their sentimentalism will destroy Palestinian dream in the long run.
2. The starting point of the Roadmap should be the establishment of Palestine State. Or the cycle will continue.
I am not here to insist something. I only want to show you what I organized in recent days. My research is purely based on all the events I’ve observed in those days. Time passed. I resumed my work. Is there any change since then? For your convenience, I started reading your articles during the middle-or-end of Clinton era. And then, I belong to neither Israel nor Palestine, but the third party.
(… Articles…)
These are nothing special. It’s been years. Has anything worked to halt the Hamas?

JIWON:
I’VE BEEN READING ARTICLES IN ISRAELI NEWSPAPERS SINCE MIDDLE-OR–END OF CLINTON ERA. NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE THEN, INCLUDING THE REPORT ON ISRAELI CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY.

DEAR JEWISH/PALESTINIAN PIGS,
If you think there is something unfair with my quoting certain things from Jewish/Palestinian articles, please let me know. I still have no idea about who I should call Jewish/Palestinian Pigs. You know who they are. You’re welcome to leave your message. ^.*
