MORE INFORMATION NEED TO BE ADDED and ORGANIZED…
JIWON: My computer work happened to report this article.
From ISRAEL & HEADACHE! (Impossible to find the exact title… *.*) in FrontPage of my Knesset-blog, Welcome-to-Jerusalem.
European rabbis invalidate conversions done by Israeli Chief Rabbinate’s State Conversion Authority (May 20, 2008): “We oppose the phenomenon of Israeli rabbis shuttling to Europe especially to perform a conversion and then shuttling back. These rabbis are not familiar with the reality in Europe,” said Rabbi Moshe Lebel, Rabbinical Director of the Conference of European Rabbis (CER). (…) In sharp contrast to the CER’s stance, the Rabbinic Council of America (RCA), the largest rabbinic organization in North America, came out in defense of Druckman…
JIWON: BELOW are happenings AFTER… *.*
NOTICE: It is not a result of my ‘planned & organized’ research. I just happened to save these articles, (without reading them), during my daily check up Jewish newspapers. NOW, TOO TIRED TO FINISH THIS WORK. I just feel really weird. WHO succeeded Haim Druckman as Conversion Authority head? Only Females’ conversions were revoked by High Rabbinical Court?
TOO TIRED TO START MY COLLECTION FROM THIS ARTICLE, ANYWAY:
A New Conversion Scandal (May 17, 2006) By Yated Ne’eman, Jonathan Rosenblum
Or Israel-US conversion authority crisis resolved (Feb 21, 2008)
16. Mazuz: Rabbinical courts can’t nullify Druckman conversions (Sep 25, 2008): (…) Arussi, who also has a law degree, said many marriage registrars were concerned about the legitimacy of conversions performed by Druckman as a result of Sherman’s ruling. “We need to receive direction from the chief rabbi and the Council of the Chief Rabbinate,” he said.
15. Ashkenazim, Sephardim fight over Chief Rabbinate appointments (Sep 16, 2008): A dispute between Sephardi and Ashkenazi rabbis over the appointment of Shas mentor Rabbi Ovadia Yosef’s son has prevented the two camps from joining forces to take control of the Chief Rabbinate’s governing council. (…) However, Degel Hatorah and Agudath Yisrael refuse to form a united voting bloc with Shas in protest against Shas’s candidate Rabbi Avraham Yosef, the chief rabbi of Ashdod and the son of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, the supreme halachic authority for Ashkenazi haredim, ordered his representatives to oppose the appointment of Avraham Yosef. Elyashiv’s opposition to Rabbi Avraham Yosef is primarily due to his position on laws governing the Sabbatical (shmita) year.
14. Judge urges haredi conversion primacy (Aug 6, 2008): Rabbinical judge urges religious Zionists to accept haredi primacy in conversions. Druckman supporters shout down rabbi who criticized his rulings (…)
13. Chief Sephardi Rabbi Amar agrees to new conversion c’tee (Aug 6, 2008)
12. Olmert pledges to press for conversion reforms: Local exec applauds effort, calls rabbis’ ruling ‘catastrophe’ (Jul 24, 2008): NJJN (New Jersey Jewish News) Staff and JTA contributed to this report.
11. Olmert: Conversion is a national priority (Jul 22, 2008)
10. UJC calls for Olmert’s input on conversion (Jul 13, 2008)
9. Shas may be ready for compromise on extension of rabbinical court powers (Jul 1, 2008)
8. Religious freedom now (Jun 22, 2008): Rabbi Reuven Hammer is the head of the Rabbinical Court of the Israeli Masorti (Conservative) Movement and a former president of the movement’s International Rabbinical Assembly.
7. Committee created to replace Druckman (Jun 17, 2008)
6. Ombudsman recommends firing rabbinic judge in Druckman saga (Jun 12, 2008)
5. Court to decide on rejected conversions (Jun 6, 2008)
4. ‘State can’t force rabbis to perform conversions’ (May 28, 2008): (…) to debate the crisis between religious Zionists and Ashkenazi haredim over the legitimacy of the special conversion courts established several years ago to facilitate conversions. The long-standing dispute reached crisis proportions several weeks ago when Rabbi Avraham Sherman, a judge on the High Rabbinical Court, ruled that all the judgments of the head of the special courts, Rabbi Haim Druckman, were null and void. Soon afterward, the 75-year-old Druckman was fired, allegedly on the grounds that he was too old to continue holding the government position. But religious Zionist leaders charged Prime Minister Ehud Olmert with caving in to haredi pressure. In the meantime, Yisrael Beiteinu MK David Rotem tried to steer the discussion toward a bill he initiated aimed at transferring the responsibility for conversion from the religious court system to the city rabbis. Rotem hoped to bring the bill to a vote during the meeting but agreed to postpone it due to a request by haredi MKs. Rehovot Chief Rabbi Simcha Hacohen Kook said the government and the Knesset would be violating the human rights of rabbis if they forced them to recognize conversions they did not believe in. (…)
3. Yosef: ‘Conversion Courts are too stringenta” (May 28, 2008): (…) Yosef’s position also underlines differences in approach between Sephardi rabbis, who tend to be more lenient in their halachic rulings than haredi Ashkenazi rabbis.
2. Chaos in Conversion authority as head is fired (May 22, 2008)
1. Or Yehuda deputy mayor: I’m sorry about burning New Testaments(May 22, 2008): TALKBACKS – 18. Talansky, Haredi and how to destroy a state – This week was filled with modern jewish achievements: First studens of Or Yehuda Yeshiva burned the new Testament, a book that is close to 2 Bio people’s religous belief; than Rabbi Druckmann was fired as head of the conversion auhorities, on request of Shas and Haredi circles; and now Haredi Rabbis organize a US Jewish doner to become the killing weapon against an Israel Prime Minister. Puhhh – if my history class memory doesn’t fail me: Religious fanatic Jews have destroyed this country and its temple twice before; Toucholsky stated: When you burn books, the next is you will burn people;… / READER – Israel (05/23/2008 15:07)
JIWON: Weird… When I first read this article, there were not many talkbacks and I only saved this comment in my draft (May 26) of my next-mail to Knesset. Now on June 2, I try to organize it again and can’t find this comment from 414 talkbacks. Should I not use this in my blog?

ISRAEL & AMERICAN EVANGELICALS (NOT FINISHED…)

AIPAC’s decision to shun Pastor John Hagee reveals the terrible state of American Jewish politics today.
U.S. pastor apologizes to Jews for ‘God sent Hitler’ comments
MORE INFORMATION NEED TO BE ADDED…
Rabbi Yoffie (Union for Reform Judaism): ‘Christians for Israel’ hurt country (Apr 4, 2008).: “If Yoffie wants America to pressure Israel to trade land for peace, than yes, he [differs] from us. He should phrase it as it is. We are not trying to block the peace process, it’s that he is seeking to impose the peace process,” said CUFI (=Hagee).
[Bibi+CUFI] vs. [Union for Reform Judaism] on JERUSALEM Issue (Apr 7, 2008).: “This is a friendship of the heart, a friendship of common roots, and a friendship of common civilization,” Netanyahu told a conference of American Evangelicals in Jerusalem, (CUFI=Hagee) (…) Hagee announced donations of $6 million to a number of Israeli causes and declared that Israel must remain in control of all of Jerusalem. “Turning part or all of JERUSALEM over to the Palestinians would be tantamount to turning it over to the Taliban,” Hagee said. Netanyahu’s remarks come just days after US Rabbi Yoffie (Union for Judaism) said that Israel should not deal with Christian Zionists like Hagee, calling him an “extremist”… MK Benny Elon (NU-NRP), who has spearheaded Israel’s relations with the evangelical Christian world, called Yoffie’s politically based remarks “shameful,” and called Hagee a “visionary man of courage” and an “outstanding spiritual leader.” Efrat Chief Rabbi Shlomo Riskin called the burgeoning ties between Israel and the evangelical Christian world “one of the most important things,” after close to 2,000 years of enmity persecution and pogroms. He called the rapprochement between Christians and Jews “one of the miracles” of the 20th century.
Rev. Hagee (Christians United for Israel): We don’t tell Israelis what to do (Apr 7, 2008).: (…) “Yoffie relies on a few quotes from me and others pulled out of context,” said Hagee. (…) “The record is clear. This is not a matter of a few statements here and there, these are consistent statements over a period of years demanding that territory should not be returned,” said Yoffie. The rabbi pointed to a letter sent by Hagee to President George W. Bush in 2007 in which he claimed that territorial compromise was a policy of past. “The thrust of the letter calls on the president to reject territorial compromise. There is no ambiguity. They are pushing a particular agenda and demanding the president abandon his policy. If that has changed and they are talking about deferring to the government of Israel, then I would welcome it,” said Yoffie. (…) “I must say that Rabbi Yoffie’s speech demonstrates not only a lack of respect for me, but a troubling lack of respect for the truth,” said Hagee.
After their verbal sparring, Hagee and Yoffie may meet (Apr 9, 2008).: (…) Yoffie’s initial speech and the potential for a rapprochement come as Hagee is working to repel a tidal wave of negative publicity unleashed by his endorsement… Critics have called on McCain to distance himself from the endorsement, accusing Hagee of religious intolerance. The controversy threatens to weaken Hagee, one of Israel’s most influential Christian supporters, while also supplying a boost to liberals who oppose the increasing willingness of Jewish organizations to work with him and other right-wing evangelicals on Middle East-related issues. (…) Hagee denied reports that he had referred to the Catholic Church as “a great whore,” a “false cult system” and an “apostate church.”… The pastor did not address claims that in the past he had said some intolerant things about Islam, including his reported assertion that the Koran instructs Muslims to kill Jews and Christians. After the call, a Hagee spokesman said the pastor distinguishes between Islam and radical Islam. Yoffie told JTA that he would go back to the sources to see whether he had plucked any of these statements out of context. “I would be delighted if we could agree” on treating other faiths with respect, the rabbi said. A powwow with Hagee would hardly be the first time Yoffie, a staunch liberal and Zionist, met with an ideological foe… Yoffie’s boldest step last week was his call for Jews to stop attending the “Nights to Honor Israel” that have been Hagee’s key triumph. Christians United for Israel says the nights have raised tens of million of dollars since he launched them 25 years ago at his church. Since its founding two years ago, CUFI has held 75 such events across the country, often working with local Jewish groups… Even with the recent controversies, Hagee still commands b support within the Jewish community. Lee Wunsch, the executive director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, who joined Hagee on his current Israel tour… On the national level, Hagee has strong ties with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee… AIPAC did not comment. (…) Hagee retains close ties with settlers…
Poll: 82% of US Christians support Israel. (45% oppose the division of JERUSALEM) (Apr 10, 2008).: …according to the poll… Joshua Fund, an evangelical organization. (…) The survey found clear differences between Protestants and Catholics on the issue. Protestants were more likely to say a Palestinian state would be a terror state by a 10-point margin; Catholics were evenly split. The belief was strongest among Republican and conservative Evangelicals… There are 50 million-60 million evangelicals Christians in the US. (…) Finally, 45% said they would be more likely to support a US presidential candidate who would protect America from Islamic terrorism, protect Israel from a nuclear attack from Iran, oppose the division of Jerusalem and refuse to pressure Israel to make concessions on issues of national security, (…) The non-profit organization, (Joshua Fund), aims to raise more than $100 million over the next three years to help Israeli victims…
Column: Reform Judaism is now afraid of Christianity. (Apr 13, 2008).: The leader of the proud, rich and mercurial denomination that in the past abandoned Hebrew, abolished circumcision, moved Shabbat to Sunday and served pork at a rabbinical ordination ceremony has now cautioned American Jews not to cooperate with America’s Christian Zionists.
